Chocolate Chip Banana Bread | Simple to Make and Unbelievably Scrumptious

Updated: Jun 12, 2019

This Banana Bread has just the right amount of sweetness, combined with deliciously ripe banana's and milk chocolate chips. This recipe is a great and easy treat to bring to parties or neighbors in a pinch!

Banana Bread has a special place in my heart because it is one of the first recipes that I truly learned to bake from scratch. Over the years I have been able to grow and forge my recipe into something that has just the right amount of sweetness and not too much banana OR chocolate. Sometimes I even add walnuts or pecans to elevate that texture, but it is oh so delicious even without them!

Don't forget, if you have any questions, comments or just something to share, you can leave a comment or contact me on my Facebook or through my E-mail!

For more recipes, tips and tricks subscribe to my blog or follow me on social media. To check out my favorite set of silicon utensils, you can look at them here, or click here for a list of things I use and abuse weekly ( and can't get enough of 😄 ). If you would like a detailed list of items I used for this recipe, it is down at the bottom of the page.

The hand mixer I use is currently on sale, so grab it while you can if you are looking for a replacement! It is a sleek black, 5 speed KitchenAid mixer that has sturdy, more open whisk attachments so you aren't constantly have to get those thicker ingredients unstuck!

Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

Yields 1 large loaf

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups All - Purpose flour

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1 stick unsalted butter ( room temperature, very soft )

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar

  • 2 over - ripe bananas ( the darker the better! 🍌 )

  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt ( I use FAGE 2% )

  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • 2 eggs ( room temperature )

  • 1 cup milk chocolate chips + 10 - 20 pieces for the top

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350F

  2. Grease and flour a 1.5 quart GLASS bread pan and set aside ( you can also use 2 - 3 smaller bread pans to cut down on bake time )

  3. In a medium mixing bowl combine your flour, baking soda and salt

  4. In a separate large mixing bowl cream your butter and granulated / brown sugars until completely combined and smooth in texture ( this will take about 2 minutes, possibly more depending on how softened your butter is )

  5. Mash your banana's and add them too your butter / sugar mixture, along with the yogurt and vanilla

  6. Add in your eggs one at a time until they are fully incorporated into your wet ingredients

  7. Pour your dry ingredients into your wet ingredients and mix until the batter becomes smooth ( it is a thicker batter, but should still be thin enough to pour into you pan(s) )

  8. Fold in the chocolate chips with a spatula and transfer your batter into your pans

  9. Place chocolate chips upside down into your batter evenly distributed for those lovely uniform chocolate circles of deliciousness on top

  10. Cover your bread pan with foil to prevent over browning

  11. Bake for 90 minutes or until inserting a toothpick into the center comes out completely clean ( just a few crumbs )

  12. Allow the loaf to cool before trying to remove it from the pan or it will be a mess!

  13. Once cooled, cut, serve and enjoy!! 😍

Baking notes

I recommend leaving the foil on for the entire cook time to ensure that your bake does not get a crunchy burnt top since the cook time is so long.

This is just a basic loaf recipe, if you want to spice things up a little, try adding your favorite nuts, fruits or even some cinnamon / other lovely baking spices. This recipe is very versatile and easy to prepare, but just remember that with some fruits / veggies will add extra moisture to your bread depending on how you incorporate it and how much you put in it.

To test for a finished bake I sometimes use a skewer to make sure it is 100% baked all the way through! Don't take any chances if you are unsure 😊
